■ Supplying extra-high-voltage cables worth $5 million to Vietnamese Power Authority
■ Gaining benefit as underground cables are on the rise

Anyang, Nov. 1, 2016 - LS Cable & System Asia announced that it would supply extra-high-voltage cables for a large 
underground power cable project in Vietnam.
 
LS Cable & System Asia’s Vietnamese subsidiary, LS-VINA, recently entered into a contract with the Vietnamese 
Power Authority to supply 220kV extra-high-voltage cables worth $5 million. As a result, LS-VINA will supply cables 
for the reinforcement of the Ho Chi Minh power grid since the start of 2017.
 
Starting with this project, the laying of underground power cables in Vietnam will go into full gear. In Vietnam, some 
underground power cables were installed a few years ago, but because the laying of underground power cables is 
more expensive most of the power grids still use Overhead Transmission Lines that are connected by pylons and 
power poles.
 
In 2014, a truck ran into a power pole in Ho Chi Minh causing a blackout that affected half of the city. The Vietnamese
government then announced a plan to put more power cables underground, and began to carry out this project in earnest 
starting this year. To this end, the Vietnamese Power Authority will receive funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) 
and other sources.
 
“In Southeast Asian countries, the number of power grid construction projects funded by overseas capital will increase,” 
said Roe-Hyun Myung, President and CEO of LS Cable & System Asia. “The sales of LS-VINA, which has already proven 
its quality and price competitiveness, and has a solid presence in the market, is expected to increase.”
 
LS-VINA is the only company in the four Mekong River Basin countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar) 
that can produce high-voltage underground cables. Recently it has been increasing exports to Europe and 
South America as well as neighboring ASEAN countries like Singapore, Myanmar and Indonesia.
