LSIS was selected as the top 100 global innovator by Clarivate Analytics (former Intellectual Property & Science division of Thomson Reuters) for the 6th consecutive year. In particular, being named in the energy category for which only 5 companies from around the world were selected, LSIS had its Intellectual Property (IP) competitiveness officially recognized as being top 5 among global energy companies.

LSIS was recently selected as the ´2016 Top 100 Global Innovators,´ announced by global database and consulting service company Clarivate, for the 6th consecutive year along with LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, and had an award ceremony on the 16th at LS Tower in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Chairman & CEO of LSIS, Ja-kyun Koo, met with personnel from Clarivate, such as Global Vice-President David Brown, Asia-Pacific General Director David Liu, and Korea Branch Manager Jin-woo Kim, and was presented with the top 100 global innovator trophy.

Chairman Koo said, "It is extraordinary to be selected again as the Clarivate top 100 global innovator starting with a new mission," and added, "it is especially delightful to have our efforts to secure global competitiveness by prioritizing IP capability and corporate innovation recognized."

Further, he said, "There is great significance in the fact that LSIS was named among only 5 companies selected from the entire oil, gas & energy category," and added, "we will further strengthen our IP portfolio by maintaining the management doctrine that R&D innovation is the foremost value for sustainable growth."

David Brown, the Vice-President of Clarivate, responded, "We applaud LSIS for taking on a leading role for progressing into the new era of global innovation," and said, "as it has been selected as a company pioneering global innovation for 6 years since being initially selected, we expect an even higher level of innovation to come."

Prior to this award ceremony Clarivate announced the 2016 Top 100 Global Innovators on the 11th after assessing the innovation of major global companies based on comprehensive analysis of factors like ▲Size of overall patent application ▲Success rate of patent approval ▲Scope of global application and ▲Influence.

According to the top 100 global innovator report, announced for the 6th year this year, it was found that the size of patent application generally decreased while the success rate of approval increased, and there were more qualitative rather than quantitative improvements. Clarivate analyzed that the selected companies produced a total earnings of over $4 trillion in 2015, and invested over $227 billion in R&D, 9.1% higher in average than the average investment amount by companies in the S&P 100 index.

It is analyzed that LSIS was selected as the top 100 global innovator by receiving the highest global assessment of IP not only in quantitative expansion, such as the simple number of acquired patents, but also qualitative performance, like the success rate of patent approval, proportion of application in 4 overseas regions, and citation counts.

In particular, LSIS was categorized into the oil, gas & energy category, and only 5 companies were selected for this category, including Alstom and Total S.A of France, and Shevron and Exxon Mobil of the United States.

Following the inauguration of Chairman Ja-kyun Koo as CEO in 2008, LSIS has actively promoted activity not only in strengthening the IP portfolio in the main business of electricity and automation both domestically and globally, but also in creating patents in the strategic business of smart energy solutions.

In particular, the mission of ´Futuring Smart Energy´ was declared in 2015, and intensive R&D investment was made in the fields of ▲ Energy efficiency solutions based on Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Direct Current (DC) and ▲ Transmission and transformation of smart electricity, filing applications for 2,338 patents domestically and 2,959 globally in the past 5 years.
