■ One-year field test completed at Pusan Newport International Terminal

Anyang, Oct. 27, 2016 - LS Cable & System announced that it has succeeded in localizing cables for high-speed cranes used in ports for the first time in Korea.
 
LS Cable & System has recently completed a one-year field test on a cable applied to a crane operating at the Pusan Newport International Terminal (PNIT). Until now the cables for high-speed cranes were 100% imported from Europe, but as LS Cable & System has successfully commercialized this type of cable for the first time in Korea, the door is now open to localization.
 
As the cable for high-speed cranes is wound and unwound on its reel repeatedly when moving containers, it must have excellent flexibility and wear resistance. In particular, if the cable is moved at a high speed, e.g. more than 250m per minute, because of system automation as in Pusan Newport, the cable may be split or cut, so the importance of cable reliability is paramount.
 
Also, this product is a composite cable that combines the functions of an optical cable and power cable into one. Through this cable not only power can be supplied but also signals can be transmitted to control the crane. As unmanned operating systems increase, cables will need to incorporate multiple functions.
 
As development of a special cable that has such durability and multi-functionality requires a high level of technology, however, only two European companies have succeeded in commercializing such cable, and thus have been dominating the market.
