LSIS has been selected by Clarivate Analytics, a global academic information service provider, as a “Derwent Top 100 Global Innovator” for an eighth consecutive year.

LSIS announced on February 18 that it had held a ceremony to receive the Clarivate Analytics' Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators trophy at the LSIS R&D Campus in Anyang, Gyeonggi province, with Lee Hak-seong, president of DT (Digital Transformation) at LSIS, Kim Jin-woo, president of Clarivate Analytics Korea, and executives from both companies in attendance.

The Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators 2018?19 Report recently announced by Clarivate Analytics selected LSIS, along with LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, as one of the 100 most innovative enterprises in the world.

LSIS, Total S.A. in France and Exxon Mobil in the United States were the only companies in the oil, gas and energy sector selected to receive the trophy, which constitutes official recognition that LSIS has achieved global-top-level IP (Intellectual Property) competitiveness in the industry.

Clarivate Analytics selects the “Derwent Top 100 Global Innovators” based on a comprehensive analysis of the following four categories: the overall volume of granted patents, the ratio of granted patents to patent applications, the patent globalization index, and the impact of inventions.

“We applaud LSIS for playing a leading role in the march toward a new era of global innovation. We expect LSIS to achieve an even higher level of innovation in the future given that it has been selected as one of the world's leading innovators each year for the last eight years,” said Kim Jin-woo, president of Clarivate Analytics Korea.

LSIS believes that its selection for an eighth consecutive year represents official recognition that the company ranks among the global top-level companies in terms of not only the volume of its IP portfolio worldwide but also certain qualitative aspects such as its patent success rate, the number of patents granted in four major world markets, and citations by other patents.

LSIS has been conducting programs aimed at securing key patents in its main power and automation business as well as its strategic business in the smart energy sector in a bid to strengthen its IP portfolio worldwide. This initiative is based on Chairman Gu Ja-gyun’s commitment to further enhancing the company’s IP portfolio according to a management philosophy in which R&D innovation is the first priority for sustainable growth.

Over the past five years, the company has concentrated its R&D investment on energy efficient solutions based on ICT and DC (Direct Current) technologies and smart power transmission and distribution, and has applied for 2,336 domestic patents and 3,109 international patents.

“Amid the rapid changes in the energy industry, we are focusing on R&D to provide a wide range of solutions in the smart energy sector based on ICT convergence technology. We plan to continue our efforts to identify key technology areas, create ideas, and accumulate intellectual property rights that can lead the era of DT,” declared an LSIS executive.
